The Apple iPhone reported its location after falling from a plane over Texas in the United States.

iSurvive: iPhone still works after 9,300ft fall from plane

The phone could even still make and receive calls after it dropped out of a small aircraft when pressure change caused a door latch to give way by three inches – enough for the device to fall out.

Luckily, the owner of the phone and a colleague used the “Find My iPhone app” to locate it under a tree – although it seems the phone was in a battery charger case, according to a report on the Times Record News website.

Owner Ben Wilson was quoted as being as surprised as he was happy about the durable battery charger case.

“It was in one piece, scratched a bit on the corners but it still worked,” said Mr Wilson.

In another twist to the story, a donkey apparently helped find the phone – which was reportedly an iPhone 5S! The incident happened on Monday 27 July 2015.

Travelling at nearly 100mph?

A quick internet search about the speed of a falling iPhone 4 brings up calculations from tech site Wired, which suggest that it could reach a terminal velocity of up to 95mph with the smallest edge downward – although it would be more like 27.2mph if it was falling screen side up.

Earlier this year, an iPhone 6 was sent into the outer reaches of the Earth’s atmosphere on a weather balloon and survived the fall – although it was protected by a rugged case and had a rig with a parachute.
