Video: Land Rover unveils remote control that allows you to drive a Range Rover Sport from outside the car using a smartphone app!

The driver can steer, accelerate and brake using the app – as you can see from the YouTube video above posted by the automotive company.

The car maker says this means the driver can walk alongside the car to check the precise positioning of the vehicle to negotiate their way out of tricky situations or difficult terrains safely or even reverse it out of a parking spot when other people have parked too close to allow the door to be opened.

But the speed is set at a maximum of 4mph!

Land Rover has been showcasing prototype technologies and its research director says it could improve safety and cut the boring bits of driving. It includes a Range Rover Sport able to turn 180 degrees to point the vehicle in a different direction all by itself.

“Getting a car out of a tricky parking manoeuvre can be a stressful experience for any driver.

“A Remote Control car, or a vehicle that can autonomously turn in the road, demonstrates how we could use these new technologies to reduce the tedious parts of driving and improve road safety,” said Dr Wolfgang Epple, director of research and technology at Jaguar Land Rover.
